Man charged in thefts from vehicles

A 37-year-old Woodstock man is facing charges after Brant OPP responded to several separate thefts from unlocked and locked vehicles in the Paris area at the end of October.

He is charged with six counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, three counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of trespass by night, identity theft and possession of a stolen credit card.

Police said the vehicles were entered via unlocked doors and, in some occasions, by smashing windows.

Police remind residents to properly secure their vehicles and personal property.

Here are some tips:

• Always secure your vehicle doors when parking your vehicle, even if you are only going to be a few minutes;

• Remove valuables from your vehicle. If you can’t, then keep them from plain view;

• Park in well illuminated areas with high traffic;

• If possible, park and lock your vehicle in a locked garage.
