MFA's reaction to UN accusations of executions and new city military administrations: last night's highlights

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on UN reports on the alleged executions of Russian prisoners, and the President established three city military administrations in occupied Luhansk Oblast. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.

MFA's response to UN accusations of executions

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to the report of the UN Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, which alleges torture of prisoners of war by both the Russian occupiers and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the monitoring mission for its work, in particular for documenting violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law committed by Russia against Ukraine.

However, the ministry stressed that it “considers it unacceptable to place responsibility on the victim of aggression”. The Ministry expects the UN mission to avoid any steps that could be interpreted as equating the victim and the aggressor.

New city military administrations

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree establishing three city military administrations in Hirske, Sievierodonetsk, and Popasna, Luhansk Oblast.

The military administrations were established based on the civil-military administrations that had been in place since February 19, 2021. Hirske, Sievierodonetsk, and Popasna are currently temporarily occupied.

Fatal alcohol poisoning

In Kyiv Oblast, a girl created a social media account for a “store” to poison her ex-boyfriend. He received alcohol from the “store” as a prize in a “draw”.

After drinking alcohol, the man's health deteriorated sharply, and his hair fell out. He was treated on an outpatient basis and later hospitalized in a medical facility, where he fell into a coma and died. The police in Kyiv Oblast reported that 5 more people were poisoned. Some of them had also drunk the alcohol they had received as a 'prize'.

The girl was served a notice of suspicion of premeditated murder (Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). She faces 7 to 15 years in prison. The suspect has now been remanded in custody as a measure of restraint.

Briefly about other news:

  • In the United States, a group of senators from both parties is calling on the administration of President Joe Biden to support the International Criminal Court investigation of Russian officials, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, and to share evidence of Russian war crimes in Ukraine;
  • US President Joe Biden said he was not worried after the meeting between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Putin. In his opinion, the strength of the Russian-Chinese alliance is exaggerated;
  • Two bridges on the roads leading to Kyiv have been rebuilt and opened near Chernihiv. This will significantly speed up passenger traffic and increase cargo turnover.
